Το παρόν άρθρο αποτελεί μια προσπάθεια να παρουσιαστεί συνοπτικά το ιστορικό και θεολογικό περιεχόμενο του κινήματος των Ονοματολατρών, που δίχασε την αθωνική κοινότητα στις αρχές του 20ού αιώνα, με καταστροφικές συνέπειες. Παρουσιάζουμε τις προσωπικότητες και τις διδασκαλίες των ηγετών του εν λόγω κινήματος, καθώς και τον τρόπο με τον οποίο σχηματίστηκε ένα οργανωμένο κίνημα, από μια μικρή ομάδα μοναχών. Το κίνημα αυτό απορρόφησε ένα σημαντικό μέρος του ρωσικού μοναχισμού, προκαλώντας τις αντιδράσεις και τις συγκρούσεις που βασάνισαν την Εκκλησία της Ρωσίας για πολλές δεκαετίες.
George Matoureli, Mount Athos and the Russian Onomatolatres
The aforementioned article is an effort to briefly present the historical and theological content of the Onomatolatres movement, that divided the Athonian community during the beginning of the 20th century, bringing along devastating consequences. We are presenting the personalities and the teachings of the leaders of the said movement, as well as the way, in which an organized movement was formed, from a small group of monks. This movement absorbed a significant portion of the Russian monasticism, inducing the reactions and conflicts that tormented the Church of Russia for many decades.
