Είναι δύσκολο για τον σύγχρονο προσκυνητή του Άθω να φανταστεί πώς γινόταν το προσκύνημα στο Άθω στην αρχαιότητα, πώς έφταναν οι Ρώσοι προσκυνητές στο Άθω, πώς ταξίδευαν μεταξύ των μοναστηριών και ποια μοναστήρια επισκέπτονταν πρώτα. Ταξιδεύοντας στο Άγιο Όρος σήμερα, βλέπουμε μόνο τα απομεινάρια εκείνων των εποχών, όταν δεν υπήρχαν σύγχρονα μέσα μεταφοράς και στο Άγιο Όρος μπορούσε κανείς να ταξιδέψει μόνο σε λιθόστρωτα μονοπάτια, τα οποία χιλιάδες προσκυνητές διαφορετικών ηλικιών περπατούσαν για αιώνες. Σκοπός της παρούσας έκδοσης είναι να δώσει μια γενική εικόνα του ρωσικού προσκυνήματος στο Άγιο Όρος από την πρώτη γνωστή αναφορά των Ρώσων στο Άγιο Όρος μέχρι τις αρχές του 20ού αιώνα, δίνοντας ιδιαίτερη προσοχή στην οργάνωση του προσκυνήματος στο Άγιο Όρος, καθώς και στους κύριους προορισμούς προσκυνήματος και στις κύριες διαδρομές προσκυνήματος στη μοναστική χερσόνησο.

It is difficult for the modern Athos pilgrim to imagine how the pilgrimage to Athos was done in ancient times, how the Russian pilgrims got to Athos, how they travelled between the monasteries and which monasteries they visited first. Traveling on Mount Athos today we see only the relics of those times, when there was no modern means of transport, and on Mount Athos one could travel only on stone-paved paths, which thousands of pilgrims of different ages walked on for centuries. The aim of this publication is to give a general overview of the Russian pilgrimage to the Holy Mountain from the first known mention of the Russians on Athos until the beginning of the 20th century, paying particular attention to the organization of the pilgrimage on Athos itself, as well as the main pilgrimage destinations The main pilgrimage routes on the monastic peninsula.
