Ο άγιος Γέροντας Δανιήλ Κατουνακιώτης (1846-1929) εγκαταστάθηκε στην έρημο του Αγίου Όρους, στα Κατουνάκια το 1881, και με τη σοφία και τη σύνεσή του επιβλήθηκε στη συνείδηση των Αγιορειτών Πατέρων ως κανόνας και οδηγός της Ορθοδοξίας, ως δάσκαλος της ζωής και της διάκρισης των πνευμάτων. Κατέληξε να είναι ο εκφραστής της αυτοσυνειδησίας του Αγίου Όρους. Στις 9 Μαρτίου 2020, αγιοκατατάχθηκε στην Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία. Η μνήμη του τιμάται στις 7 Σεπτεμβρίου.
Ο άγιος Γέροντας ήταν ένας επιμελής επιστολογράφος. Εκτός από εκατοντάδες επιστολές πνευματικού, δογματικού και απολογητικού περιεχομένου, έγραφε απλές επιστολές για καθημερινές ανάγκες. Μία τέτοια βρέθηκε στο νεότερο αρχείο της ιεράς μονής Ξηροποτάμου. Την έγραψε στις 29 Φεβρουαρίου 1904, στα Κατουνάκια, και την έστειλε στη μονή Ξηροποτάμου, για να ζητήσει τη χορηγεία της για την ανέγερση παρεκκλησίου στο κελί του, στη μνήμη των Αγιορειτών Πατέρων.

St. Elder Daniel Katounakiotis (1846-1929) settled in the desert of Mount Athos, in "Katounakia" in 1881, and with his wisdom and prudence was imposed on the conscience of the Mount Athos Fathers as a rule and guide of Orthodoxy, as a teacher of life and the distinction of spirits. He ended up being the exponent of the self-consciousness of Mount Athos. On March 9, 2020, he was canonized as a saint in the Or¬tho¬dox Church. His memory is honored on September 7.
The Holy Elder was a diligent letter writer. In addition to hundreds of letters of spiritual, dogmatic, and apologetic content, he wrote simple letters for everyday needs. One such was found in the newest archive of the Holy Monastery of Xeropotamou. He wrote it on February 29, 1904, in "Katounakia", and sent it to the Holy Monastery of Xeropotamou, to ask the monastery to become a sponsor on the erection of a chapel within his cell named after the Holy fathers of Mount Athos.
