Λόγω του μεγάλου αριθμού γραπτών ελληνικών εγγράφων έχουμε άριστη γνώση της μεσαιωνικής τοπωνυμίας της Χαλκιδικής. Όσον αφορά την ένταση και την τοπογραφία της μετανάστευσης και εγκατάστασης του σλαβικού πληθυσμού τον 7ο και 8ο αιώνα, έχει ενδιαφέρον σε ποιες περιοχές επιβίωσαν κάποια αρχαία τοπωνύμια στον Μεσαίωνα και δεν αντικαταστάθηκαν από σλαβικά. Σε ορισμένες περιπτώσεις η μορφή των σλαβικών τοπωνυμίων δίνει μια υπόδειξη ως προς τη χρονολόγησή τους.
Due to a great number of written Greek documents we have an excellent knowledge of the medieval toponymy of Chalkidiki. As for the intensity and the topography of the immigration and settlement of the Slavonic population in the 7th and 8th centuries it is of interest in which regions some ancient place names survived in the Middle Ages and were not replaced by Slavonic ones. In some cases the form of Slavonic place names give a hint as to their date.
