Ismiridou Georgia, Dimitrios Harissiadis: Purity of the Soul
Dimitrios Harissiadis (1911-1993) is one of the most important photographers of the post-war period in Greece. His archive is being kept in the Photographic Archives of the Benaki Museum. Harissiadis visited Mount Athos in May 1947 and photographed the landscape, the architectures, the monks and their day-to-day activities. Even though these photographs give a unique description of the time, they have never been shown to 346 the public. This article tries to describe through these photographs Harissiadis' journey, his special view of things, the uniqueness of Mount Athos, both providing to the reader the atmosphere of the time. It also wants to highlight the artistic value of Harissiadis' photographs and the special positi0n they have in the history of photogrnphy.
