Η μελέτη των προαναφερθέντων στοιχείων και πολλών ακόμα άλλων πληροφοριών μας βοηθούν στην ορθή καταγραφή και ανάδειξη της Ψαλτικής Τέχνης έτσι όπως διασώθηκε, διατηρήθηκε και αναπτύχθηκε τόσους αιώνες, στο Άγιον Όρος και γενικότερα στην περιοχή των Βαλκανίων.</div><div><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Summary</div><div style="text-align: left;"><div><b>The musίc manuscrίpts of the Monastery of Pantokrator </b></div><div>The cataloguing of manuscripts, as is well known, provides direct benefits both for the scientific community and also for lovers of learning in general. Ιη the science of Byzantine musicology the recording and presentation of the music manuscripts that lie in the Athonite libraries, where the majority and the most authentic of the music manuscripts are to be found, enables us to trace the overone- thousand-year history of the Psaltic Art, as it is reflected in the codices, from musical, historical, notational, prosopographical and codicographical points of view. Ιη my paper Ι will try to present the results to date of the cataloguing project involving the music manuscripts at Pantokrator Monastery. Οη the basis of the general records provided in the catalogues of Linos Politis and Sophronios Efstratiadou, plus a number of additional manuscripts from some of the monastery's kellia, the total number of music manuscripts was until recently 68. Together with a number of uncatalogued manuscripts that are held in the monastery, that total has now risen to over 75. The manuscripts date from the 14th up until the early 20th century. They contain original and, in some cases, unique compositions, principally of an Athonite character, such as those by Anastasios Rapsaniotis, Theophanes Pantokratorinos, Matthaios Vatopedinos and many other composers. The codices include a variety of very interesting documents, such as a small number of theoretical treatises and a number of documents explaining the notational systems of the Psaltic Art. Ιη addition, the case of David Raidestinos, a monk of Pantokrator Monastery, and his autograph codex, the 14th-century Papadike (cod. 214), and its contents, the transcription of folk songs in other codices, the mention of historical information about the composers, the various unique epigrams and initials that adorn the music codices and many other kinds of information can all be gathered together to provide answers to various issues concerning the science of Byzantine musicology, amongst other things. Some of the codices were produced by the monastery's notable scriptorium. There are also a number of codices written in the Romanian language. They may have been brought to the monastery from some of the metochia that the monastery once owned in Moldavia and Wallachia. The study of the aforementioned data and many other kinds of information as well helps us to create a proper record and picture of the Psaltic Art, as it has been preserved and developed over the course of so many centuries, both οη Mount Athos and in the Balkan region as a whole. </div><div><br /></div></div><p></p>Antonioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16373762812617109698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-624539530254620296.post-437707812824241252024-03-16T22:37:00.002+02:002024-03-16T22:37:46.177+02:00Λιάκος Δημήτρης, Κτητορική δραστηριότητα και δωρεές έργων τέχνης στο Άγιον Όρος (10ος - 16ος αι.): η "εικόνα" των επιγραφών<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kxWS_Njqji0YTRLBZaW534HuFlIeZvaW/view?usp=sharing" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1002" data-original-width="709" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilHu7rbwr6TVnf8P5mvofh8Jk7kVNVp7mgdZKMiPxl2uBvVdY2zaWEOWSJFVjnog4sZrhamO6mXYf4Hoy_Zf1H1nnAwhZ7SAWqk57K3tnIYDL1nEMe9a1saLVZ6dYcRnmhB4sHHV2BIGU6IRlVtSOi-2DBwNAP_vEQbGMy0cml8xzp7wsD4ttSQxKJj6rF/s320/%CE%91%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%BF%CF%81%CE%B5%CE%B9%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AE%20%CE%95%CF%83%CF%84%CE%AF%CE%B1%201%CE%BF%20%CE%95%CF%80%CE%B9%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B7%CE%BC%CE%BF%CE%BD%CE%B9%CE%BA%CF%8C%CE%95%CF%81%CE%B3%CE%B1%CF%83%CF%84%CE%AE%CF%81%CE%B9%CE%BF-1.jpg" width="226" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kxWS_Njqji0YTRLBZaW534HuFlIeZvaW/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">Λιάκος Δημήτρης, </a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kxWS_Njqji0YTRLBZaW534HuFlIeZvaW/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">«Κτητορική δραστηριότητα και δωρεές έργων τέχνης στο Άγιον Όρος (10ος - 16ος αι.): η "εικόνα" των επιγραφών», <i>Πρώτο Διεθνές Επιστημονικό Εργαστήριο 2016. Θα κάνουμε μία ανασκόπηση σχετικά με τις επισκέψεις του ηγουμένου ιερομονάχου Γερβασίου στον κράλη Στέφανο Ούρεση τον Γ΄, τον Σεπτέμβριο του 1327 και του ιερομονάχου Δωροθέου στη Συνέλευση στο Krupišta τον Μάιο-Ιούλιο του 1355 για να διεκδικήσουν εκ νέου τα απωλεσθέντα δικαιώματα του μοναστηριού.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Summary</div><div style="text-align: left;"><div><b>The monks of Hilandar - guardians of the Monastery's estates in Serbia during the Nemanjic dynasty (1198-1371) </b></div><div>The Serbian Monastery of Hilandar, thanks to generous donations, mainly by the Byzantine emperors and Serbian rulers, and other worthy nobles both of the Empire and the Serbian medieval state, acquired large estates in Byzantium itself and in Serbia. The monks of Hilandar, in order to take care of their estates, organised them into metochia, which were managed by oikonomoi, monks that were sent out by the monastery. Occasionally owners oflands adjoining those of the metochia would try to usurp either part of an estate or the monastery's right on it ( e.g. grazing rights). This phenomenon was exacerbated by the SerboByzantine wars, when the relations between Mount Athos and Serbia were broken off, as happened in the last two decades of the 13th century. The abbots of Hilandar, together with the monastery's most venerable representatives, appealed to the Byzantine king and the Serbian ruler, requesting the restoration of the monastery's rights. We shall present a review of the visits made by the abbot hieromonk Gervasius to King Stefan Uros III in September 1327 and the hieromonk Dorotheos to the Assembly at Krupista in May-July 1355 in order to reclaim the monastery's lost rights. </div><div><br /></div></div><p></p>Antonioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16373762812617109698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-624539530254620296.post-52135245530701556802024-03-16T22:21:00.000+02:002024-03-16T22:21:04.739+02:00Δεληκάρη Αγγελική, Σλαβικά τοπωνύμια και μικροτοπωνύμια στα έγγραφα των μονών του Αγίου Όρους<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1usTeSfeHphEHc0f7xP_XlngYBYXWrsLg/view?usp=sharing" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1002" data-original-width="709" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXj_9YiSZ-k4LPV0dTGvViF0cuVNW5TKLumNj1qEyKn8u2MkkC6GXlvXvCiHJJ6PygxDYW3SezQVy2b2rK6Yq5RSfBW6UuzxdrHmlraQ-ljaxnLsAIo0BWogAlE1o5IOnY24jZz1BUEu7qNDVq22hwOo2PpVV6RAF1BXfgcFxfsFLutc_bqLFzlJC5TG-B/s320/%CE%91%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%BF%CF%81%CE%B5%CE%B9%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%B7%CC%81%20%CE%95%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B9%CC%81%CE%B1%201%CE%BF%20%CE%95%CF%80%CE%B9%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B7%CE%BC%CE%BF%CE%BD%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%BF%CC%81%CE%95%CF%81%CE%B3%CE%B1%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B7%CC%81%CF%81%CE%B9%CE%BF-1.jpg" width="226" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1usTeSfeHphEHc0f7xP_XlngYBYXWrsLg/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">Δεληκάρη Αγγελική, </a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1usTeSfeHphEHc0f7xP_XlngYBYXWrsLg/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">«Σλαβικά τοπωνύμια και μικροτοπωνύμια στα έγγραφα των μονών του Αγίου Όρους», <i>Πρώτο Διεθνές Επιστημονικό Εργαστήριο 2016. Γι' αυτό και η πρότασή μου για το συγκεκριμένο Εργαστήριο θα πραγματοποιηθεί με τη συνεργασία και τη συμμετοχή των φοιτητών του Φροντιστηρίου της Βυζαντινής Ιστορίας (ΙΒΥ603).</div><div><br /></div><div>Summary</div><div><div><b>Slavic toponyms and microtoponyms in Athonite monastic documents </b></div><div>The study of the Slavic toponyms and microtoponyms in Greece has been undertaken mainly by foreign researchers, and principally Max Vasmer, who published his study Die Slaven in Griechenland in Berlin in 1941. Since then, numerous other foreign researchers have concerned themselves with issues relating to Greece's Slavic past, placing particular emphasis on the abundance of Slavic names for settlements (before their names were changed, mainly during the second decade of the 20th century), mountains, lakes, rivers, and also microtoponyms. In May 2016, upon my recommendation, a team of Greek and foreign researchers from various disciplines, together with various undergraduate and graduate students from the School of History and Archaeology, was set up in order to embark on a fresh study of the Slavic toponyms in Greece, including the systematic recording, etymologisation and comparative study of the material. References to Slavic toponyms and microtoponyms occur in Athonite monastic documents from as far back as the 11 th century. These references are very important because they appear in dated documents; thus enabling the researcher to form a picture of the early history of Slavic toponyms in certain areas. Although the issue of Slavic namechanges is touched upon by Byzantine writers, there are relatively few relevant attestations in their works. Many of the students from the School of History and Archaeology attending the Seminar on Byzantine History (rnY603) entitled 'Byzantine-Slav Relations (10th-14th cent.)' (taught by Angeliki Delikari) are carrying out studies on the Slavic toponyms, microtoponyms and anthroponyms that appear in the Athonite documents, allowing them to delve into a study of the sources and deal with original material for their research. Thus, my proposal to offer this particular workshop will be carried out with the collaboration and participation of students attending the Seminar on Byzantine History (IBY603). </div></div><div><br /></div></div>Antonioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16373762812617109698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-624539530254620296.post-89662021520634450092024-03-09T08:27:00.001+02:002024-03-09T08:27:05.219+02:00Papastathis Charalambos, The Statute of the Athonic Russian Cells' Brotherhood according to the Constitutional Laws of Mount Athos<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CGxPr-MI-bg1ErdnXAZHtvKHQOjzS5Fe/view?usp=sharing" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1034" data-original-width="709" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ_2q-JCP-rtiROfVmNicaF1QNRNqTDjpHmPm0vWbfBZkO__uaiN9HmvWgcaIs0ziLung_J6UJ8JzmaNwp7j-pa2pRz1ZHtO_XItojSa1oEDpjiQtm53T9p1ANIPiNNDQVC2SHjlDaLu_GFnoX8cP1ignU4j3zDfHgG2Cx3NWYY9SJMp4RIVfVXr1gX5hy/s320/Papastathis%20The%20Statute%20of%20the%20athonic%20russian%20Cells'%20Brotherhood.jpg" width="219" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CGxPr-MI-bg1ErdnXAZHtvKHQOjzS5Fe/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">Papastathis Charalambos, </a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CGxPr-MI-bg1ErdnXAZHtvKHQOjzS5Fe/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">«The Statute of the Athonic Russian Cells' Brotherhood according to the Constitutional Laws of Mount Athos», <i>Actes du Premier Congrès international des études balkaniques et Sud-Est européennes</i>, p. 523-528. </a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CGxPr-MI-bg1ErdnXAZHtvKHQOjzS5Fe/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">Sofia 1969</a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CGxPr-MI-bg1ErdnXAZHtvKHQOjzS5Fe/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">PDF</a> </div>Antonioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16373762812617109698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-624539530254620296.post-73059128483796798822024-03-04T23:34:00.002+02:002024-03-04T23:34:15.383+02:00Τσιγάρας Γεώργιος, Μνημειακή ζωγραφική του 19ο αιώνα στο Άγιον Όρος. Proposals for a methodological approach </div><div><br /></div><div>Nineteenth-century monumental painting on Mount Athos is of<span><a name='more'></a></span> particular artistic and ideological interest. he theological explorations that occurred in the late 18th and early 19th centuries (the Hesychastic Renaissance, also known as the Kollyvades Movement; Saint Nicodemus the Hagiorite) and later historical events (Greek War of Independence, foundation of the Kingdom of Greece, the Tanzimat) also had an impact on how ecclesiastical art evolved on Athos. Two major artistic trends marked this century. he irst sprang from the artistic principles introduced by Dionysius of Fourna. he key vehicles of Dionysius’s spirit are the two big art workshops on Athos, namely the Karpenissi and Galatista painters, as well as other individual painters whose contribution should not be ignored. hese workshops and painters formed a unique, local, Athos-centred artistic language with recognisable features that stem from post-Byzantine artistic tradition, enriched with baroque and rococo elements. Because of the far-reaching spiritual inluence of Mount Athos, this trend also spread to other Balkan regions, and especially to Rhodope and its environs. he second trend emerged around the mid 19th century and is represented by the workshop of the company of Joasaphian painters. his trend was strongly inluenced by the Nazarene art movement and developed distinctive Athonite artistic features. Interestingly, it spread widely throughout the Orthodox world: it was not only conined to the Balkans and Russia, but was even accepted by the clerical and literary circles of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the other three senior patriarchates in the Middle East. In recent years, the painting of this period has been researched by a number of art historians and studies have already been published on the period’s Athonite art. his paper forms part of the broader research conducted on monumental painting on Mount Athos during the 19th century (artistic trends and aesthet ic preferences). It presents the unpublished frescoes from the Aghioi Anargyroi (Holy Unmercenaries) and Koimesis tis heotokou (Dormition) chapels and from the narthex of the Aghia Evphemia (Saint Evphemia) chapel in Xenophontos Monastery. he frescoes are the work of painters from Galatista, as we can tell from the inscription (Aghioi Anargyroi chapel) and from the technique used (Koimesis tis heotokou chapel and narthex of the Aghia Evphemia chapel). he iconographic programme of these small churches is of artistic and iconological interest because it relects the artistic trends and ideological explorations of the irst half of the 19th century on Athos. Furthermore, the fact that the monks of Xenophontos Monastery chose this particular workshop to paint the frescoes in the new wing’s chapels relects the aesthetic preferences of the learned monks who lived at the monastery at the time. It also relects the spiritual tradition that developed in the monastery ater it was converted into a coenobium (monastic community) around 1784, under the leadership of the priest-monk Paisios of Kafsokalyvia. Methodological problems in classifying and cataloguing an Athonite archive </div><div><br /></div><div>The last three years have seen the start of the task of classifying and cataloguing the contemporary archives of the Monastery of Iviron, which is a part of the program’s works concerning Mount Athos’s Post-Byzantine archives. This work was undertaken upon<span><a name='more'></a></span> request and invitation of the monastery. The archive material to be classified dates from between 1800 and 1912, the year in which Mount Athos was liberated and joined the Kingdom of Greece. This chronological limitation does not relate to any periodization and was not set by the scientific team, but was dictated by the material itself. The reason for this is that some years ago the monastery’s secretariat systematically separated the documents dated after 1912 as those belonging to a quasi-active archive. The purpose of this paper is to present the story of this archival collection and the reasons why its unity is disrupted. Furthermore, reference will be made to the criteria set for its operational restoration as well as the work methodology, while the archival tree formed will also be presented and described. </div></div><p></p>Antonioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16373762812617109698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-624539530254620296.post-77098473653699564332024-03-04T23:14:00.003+02:002024-03-04T23:14:24.191+02:00Μπονόβας Νικόλαος, Οι χάρτινες θρησκευτικές εικόνες μέσα από τα αθωνικά αρχεία<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r2mkO74tdg0H-0aaSWNB5Ei27699wUBW/view?usp=sharing" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1001" data-original-width="709" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk20AVG2gg9ga2nyjG_IHLHgkINIqHLz_4kdvAkPW5bi5LhUF_F8ylc5W4U86aI1vrKFGM7-Hd7igwgY0LnH4XxiQaq2inKbZTnGlBcSWQ2Ereae76M_RVK2br4V2WHXfC0aFRmMIHiuth5r_XD3brQra5tybZqUViIU5ioHnw42pRxfoB9VJKQBMfA1Ft/s320/%CE%91%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%BF%CF%81%CE%B5%CE%B9%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AE%20%CE%95%CF%83%CF%84%CE%AF%CE%B1%20%CE%A0%CF%81%CE%B1%CE%BA%CF%84%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%AC%20%CE%A0%CF%81%CF%89%CF%84%CE%AC%CF%84%CE%BF%CF%85%202017.jpg" width="227" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r2mkO74tdg0H-0aaSWNB5Ei27699wUBW/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">Μπονόβας Νικόλαος, </a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r2mkO74tdg0H-0aaSWNB5Ei27699wUBW/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">«Οι χάρτινες θρησκευτικές εικόνες μέσα από τα αθωνικά αρχεία», <i>Δεύτερο Διεθνές Επιστημονικό Εργαστήριο και Ημερίδα «Ο ναός του Πρωτάτου και ο ζωγράφος του. ‘Εργα συντήρησης και νέα δεδομένα», Πρακτικά</i>, σ. 321-343. </a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r2mkO74tdg0H-0aaSWNB5Ei27699wUBW/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">Θεσσαλονίκη 2023</a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r2mkO74tdg0H-0aaSWNB5Ei27699wUBW/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">PDF</a> </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div>Bonovas Nikolaos, Religious paper icons in the Athonite archives </div><div><br /></div><div>Researchers only began to show an interest in religious paper icons in the last few decades. Material from private and<span><a name='more'></a></span> monastic collections became a subject of research and has been displayed at highly successful periodic exhibitions supplemented with scientiic catalogues. he two-volume publication by Dori Papastratou, titled ‘Χάρτινες Εικόνες. Ορθόδοξα Θρησκευτικά Χαρακτικά 1665–1899’ and published in Athens in 1986, remains a work of unsurpassed research in this ield. It is clear from all the above that conditions are ripe for researchers to tackle the new and largely unknown artistic genre of religious paper icons. he research involves woodcuts, copper-plate engravings and lithographs, mentioned in the order in which they emerged, and contributes to an understanding of painting in the late post-Byzantine period and more recent years (18th to 20th c.), through the study of iconography and the activities of copper-plate engravers and printers of paper icons. Paper icons were created as prints and were preliminary versions or ‘tools’ that painters used. Our knowledge of paper icons and the conditions under which they were produced in the monastic state of Athos has been substantially enriched by the archival material kept safe in the Athonite libraries. he material consists of ledgers with the monasteries’ annual budgets, correspondence between monks and monasteries, and personal records. We can therefore determine with precision the founding dates and scope of the Athonite engraving workshops, the names of their members (who supplied engravings of monasteries and sketes) and the price of each work of art. Our research has begun in 1998, and so far it can be concluded that: a) there is an inequality in the surviving material in terms of preservation and distribution, b) the Vatopedi Monastery produced 514,685 paper icons from 1819 to 1923, followed by the Xeropotamou Monastery with 67,020 (1816– 1914), Pantokratoros with 22,146 (1809–1875), Simonos Petra Monastery with 17,000 (1849–1902), Agiou Pavlou Monastery with 2,546 (1818–1852), Dionysiou Monastery with 2,263 (1831–1855), and Xenophontos Monastery with 1,285 paper icons (1802–1835). We believe that the wide circulation of paper icons is linked to Athos’ far-reaching spiritual inluence, the large number of believers that locked to its monasteries from far and wide, and to the monks’ frequent visits to Orthodox communities outside Athos. his research is still in progress, its aim being to study all the monasteries, sketes and cells on Athos so that a complete picture can be formed. </div></div><p></p>Antonioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16373762812617109698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-624539530254620296.post-10467172259614595852024-03-04T23:12:00.003+02:002024-03-04T23:12:13.335+02:00Βαφειάδης Κωνσταντίνος, Οι τοιχογραφίες του ναού του Πρωτάτου στο Άγιον Όρος. In search of the origins of the Palaiologan painting </div><div><br /></div><div>The frescoes in the Protaton Church constitute a landmark in the history of Byzantine art. Numerous studies have been, and continue to be, devoted to them and<span><a name='more'></a></span> distinguished researchers continue to grapple with the truly endless theological, historical and artistic questions that are posed by this splendid creation. As is well known, the painted decoration of the Protaton has been attributed to the painter Manuel Panselinos, despite the lack of evidence concerning his activity and identity. he latter has been the subject of heated debate and differences of opinion since as far back as the late 19th century. However, the time has inally come for the true identity of the painter of the Karyes church to be revealed, together with his contribution to the development of Palaiologan art. During the course of the conservation work on the frescoes, beneath the igure of St. Merkourios, four letters were uncovered (…YTYX…) that form the name “ΕΥΤΥΧΙΟΣ” (Eutychios). Another inscription fragment survives below the igure of St. Eustathios, for which the following interpretation has been proposed: [ΧΕΙ]Ρ ΜΙΧ[ΑΗΛ] (by the hand of Michael). It is clear that these are the names of the painters who decorated the Peribleptos Church in Ohrid (1295/6), Eutychios and Michael Astrapas, whose style – as is well known – matches that of the frescoes in the Protaton. Nevertheless, the question remains: Which of these two is the main painter of the frescoes in the Athonite monument? In my opinion, this painter can be none other than Michael Astrapas. In this case, the name preserved beneath the igure of St. Merkourios should be in the genitive case, i.e. [Ε]ὐτυ[χίου] (of Eutychios). his, moreover, would be in keeping with Michael Astrapas’s habit of signing his works as ‘Μιχαήλ [υἱὸς τοῦ] Εὐτυχίου’ (Michael [son] of Eutychios) (according to M. Marković). Also, the fact that the artistic idiom of the Protaton frescoes matches that of the frescoes in the monuments decorated by Michael leads to the conclusion that the decoration of the Protaton is also his work. However, the identiication of the painter does not resolve all the issues posed by the monument at Karyes. For example, should the Protaton frescoes be dated to before or ater those in the Chapel of St. Euthymios in hessaloniki (1302/3)? Who commissioned the frescoes, given Michael Astrapas’s relations with both the Byzantine aristocracy and the Serbian king Milutin? To which painter should the monuments previously ascribed to Manuel Panselinos – i.e. the Chapel of St. Euthymios and the exonarthex of the katholikon of Vatopedi Monastery – be attributed? What other artists contributed to the painted decoration of the Protaton and the other ensembles executed by Michael Astrapas and what were the consequences of each of the workshop’s compositions? Finally, how did the name ‘Manuel Panselinos’, and not that of Michael Astrapas, come to be preserved on Mount Athos as the name of the painter who decorated the Protaton Church? he present paper aims to address these questions. </div></div><p></p>Antonioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16373762812617109698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-624539530254620296.post-474044042811283312024-03-04T23:09:00.006+02:002024-03-04T23:09:46.714+02:00Νικόπουλος Αναστάσιος, Η αθωνική πολιτεία κατά την Μεσοβυζαντινή περίοδο: Η επί τη βάσει του εθιμικού δικαίου διάπλασης του καθεστώτος και των θεσμών του Αγίου Όρους στις πρώιμες φάσεις του<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; The specific protection of the Athonite status was based on a dialectical dynamic between, on the one hand, the Ottoman elite of local officials, who at every opportunity oppressed the monks and tried to benefit from the surplus value of the dependencies, and on the other hand, the central Sultan's authority, which, as another heir to the Byzantine institutional tradition, provided the monastic regime and its components with the same protection as the Byzantine emperors had once provided, both at the level of legal institutions, by issuing normative firmans confirming and supporting the Athonite regime, and at the level of judicial authority, by mobilizing the local judge (cadis), who, under the high sultanic supervision, applied the special Athonite law and even harmonized it with the law of the şarīˁa.</div></div><p></p>Antonioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16373762812617109698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-624539530254620296.post-17437051855862179442024-03-04T23:06:00.001+02:002024-03-04T23:06:21.371+02:00Νικόπουλος Αναστάσιος, Η έννοια του "Αυτουργίου" κατά το Β. The local new martyrs have been accepted the invitation of the head of Church, Crist, praise God with their holy life grace their homeland and inspire all of us with their brave confession and their torturing death. </div><div>In ancient times, the city is mentioned as Siris the Paeonian, and she was known for her high cultural level. The offer of Serres in history is remarkamble thanks to the mountain Paggaio which aid financial the king Phillipos of Macedonia. In the prefecture of Serres and in her capital Amfipolis have been written the preface and the epilogue of the great campaign of Alexander the great. During the Byzantine period (second half of the 4th A.D. – 1383 Siris (Serres) became capital of the military command of Strymonas. Sirris is renovated and fortified in order to become a base from which the Eastern Roman Empire could launch attacks against Bulgarians. </div><div>The period of Serbocracy (1345-1371) the Serres became the capital of princedom of Serres with first king Ouresis the son of Dousan, after him the kralaina Helen and in the end Ouglesis. </div><div>The period of Οttoman rule which beginning after the defeat of Serbians in Thrace the people of Serres were resisted heroically against the turks, but after close siege and lack of food they forced to surrender under condition in 19th September 1383. Serres gained prestigious reputation over the years, and was one of the first enslaved cities that responded to the call of the Society of Friends (Filiki Eteria) in order to overthrow Turkish rule. Leader of the Greek war, Emmanuel Pappas who was a tradesman and a banker. Emmanuel Pappas in cooperation with the Metropolitan Bishop of Serres Chrysanthos and other warriors fought and sacrificed themselves for the freedom of their country. </div><div>The fight for the freedom of Serres from the Turkish tyrannical thrall continued with the Macedonian Struggle against Bulgarian expansion and ended in the 29th of June 1913, when the brave Greek army, after 530 years of slavery, entered the destroyed town of Serres. Serres were finally liberated in 1944, after two further periods of Bulgarian occupation (1916-1918, 1941-1944). </div><div>In the historical Serres from ancient times the gospel message spread by Apostolos Pavlos and Andrew during of the hierapostolic action in Macedonia. The time of foundation of the first Cristian community and the Episcope of Serres was still remains indefinited, probably the 1th century. There is evidence that shows that there were bishops in Serres such as Maximinos and Prektekios since the 5th century. The EpiscopeofSerres belongedatfirsttoMetropolisofThessaloniki, whichwasvicariato of the apostolic throne of Rome. </div><div>According to the Taktikon (Notitia 3),the only source of church Serres after the annexation of Illyricum to Constantinople the Archbishopric of Serres, has the 14th place in the hierarchical ranking of 19 Archbishops and Bishops of the Metropolis of Thessaloniki. The Episcope of Serres belonged at first to Metropolis of Thessaloniki, which has two Thessaloniki, and Fillipon and when the thema of Strymon became the 9th century Archbishopric. </div><div>In the beging of the 10th century the church of Serres recorded as Archbishopric according to the Taktikon (Notitia 7), during the time of Leo VI’s and under emperor Vassilios II, was promoted as Metropolis of the Ecumenical Throne (58th in Syntagmatio) such as Zichni, Nicopolis or Nevrokopi, Meleniko, Ezevon and Cavern. First Metropolitan of Serres was Leontios (997 A.D.). </div><div>After the fall of Serres to Ottoman Turks (19.9.1383), not only did the church of Serres have to deal with the guidance of their flock, but also with the maintenance of national identity. The Holy Metropolis of Serreswith the Patriarchal and Synodical Act in 1928, the Hellenic State’s assent and the Resolution of the Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Church of Greece, became subject to direct governance of the Autocephalous Church of Greece under specific conditions. However, it remained in the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s territory. </div><div>The remarkable personality of the Ecumenical Patriarchis Callistos the first,is connected with the local church of Serres. He acted in the middle of 14th century and he was the fifth in order Αthonite Patriarchis who was occupied with Holy Mountain. He becames a vessel of grace, a divine selection, and has been fructified with the grace of the Holy Spirit. </div><div>The saint Ioannikios the first, which is the builder of monastery John the Baptist affirmative replies to salvation and to timeless invitation of God "Be holy, because I am holy." (1 Peter 1:16 and Leviticus 11:44).The Monastery of John the Baptist in Serres is closely connected with Holy Mountain of Athos because the saint Ioannikios Archbishops of Ezoba was Αthonite.</div><div>The saint Theofilos of Zixni in east Macedonia was the most important writer of codexs in Holy Mountain of Athos, who was full of Holy Spirit, became church of Holy Triad, and always in his heart was living the Jesus Christ. The saint Nikodimos said that «The saint Theofilos practiced in Holy Mountain of Athos in The Monastery of Saint Basilios of Pantocrator in 1548 and he myroblyted after his death. </div><div>After the fall of Constantinople (1453 A.D.),beyond the collapsed of Byzantine empire and the sad consequences for Greece one special category of saints within the big spiritual family of the Orthodox Church are the kallinikoi New Martyrs. After the first Martyrs in the beggining of Cristianity, the New Martyrs defend the faithful and the offer of church in national and religious freedom. New Martyr doesn’t mean new martyrdom but a new appearance of Martyrs. They have being tortured and killed for the love of God and because of their confession and faith in Jesus Christ as a true God.And through of their lives it is obvious the faith the strength of their heart and finally their ispiration from the Cristian ideals. </div><div>New Martyrs helped the Greek race during the Ottoman slavery and they became lighthouses of hopes and competitiveness. The Church of Serres is very proud of its New Martyrs, who during the Ottoman slavery bore witness to their faith in Christ and in His Church and sanctified the city with their blood. Among New Martyrs, the first who stands out is the saint Ioannis of Serres who had been tortured for 11 months and burnt to death (May 12th) in the early 16th century.Four New Martyrs from the Church of Serres, first Patroulas who burnt to death in 1597/8 and a few years later Manolis Bostantgogloy Adamis of Karapapa from Paleokomi in 1623 and Alexander Tatarhanis in 1630 were sentenced to death by hanging. </div><div>Another New Martyr is the saint Niketas the Agiannanitis, who was a monk on mount Athos and preached the word of God in the Mosque of Ahmet Pasha in Serres. He died by hanging, after horrific torture, in Tzeriach – Pazar on the night of Holy and Great Saturday on April 4th in 1808.In 1816 Saint Akakios from Neochori -Macedonia near Thessaloniki he died by decapitation. </div><div>Chronologically, the last New Martyr is Saint Benedictus Osiomartys from the Ezova of Vissaltia. He was Hieromonk on the Metohi of Konstamonitou Monastery of mount Athos in Kalamaria. He was arrested and tortured. He died by decapitation in Thessaloniki on June 12th in 1821. Turks killed him in retaliation for the Revolution in Macedonia whose leader was Emmanuel Pappas from Serres. </div><div>The New Martyrs, are real treasure with religious and national contribution during the difficult times of Turkish Slavery. We praise God for His great gift, as we recognize the debt that this gift.</div><div><br /></div></div><p></p>Antonioshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16373762812617109698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-624539530254620296.post-40231588078186465362024-01-27T23:00:00.001+02:002024-01-27T23:00:16.502+02:00Κοσμάς Σιμωνοπετρίτης μον., Επιλογικά.
